Another nude lipstick on my blog… surprise surprise… but this one might be my favourite one yet. It’s the Marc Jacobs New Nudes Gel Lip Colour in Moody Margot. I have so many nude lipsticks but I often find that they’re sometimes too chalky, or too matte, or too pale, or too dark… It’s a tricky business getting a nude lipstick right. I love a nude lipstick that gives a healthy shine and have been looking for a more high end lipstick that ticks all the boxes. I’ve found it in ‘Moody Margot’ from Marc Jacobs. This lipstick is described on the Marc Jacobs Beauty website as a ‘brownish nude’ and the range is said to ‘break the mold of traditional nude lipsticks with its innovating gellified formula’. This immediately drew me in because I love anything nourishing in a lipstick, and this one is a good’un.
The New Nudes are a range of gel lipsticks which still give colour payoff but are a sort of lipstick-gloss hybrid. The range is also said to contain Monoi Butter and Vitamin E which reduces the signs of aging which are a bonus. Moody Margot (106) is rumoured to be Marc Jacob’s favourite shade of the collection and I can see why. The colour itself is a very soft toned nude. It’s the perfect nude for a variety of skintones as it is light enough to lighten the pigmentation of the lips underneath, but not too light that it would wash you out. It’s not too dark either and more of a true nude than a peachy nude. It’s still very wearable and the shine makes your lips look full and healthy. Moody Margot is perfect for a wash of sheer colour as part of an everyday look, or you can layer it for more payoff. I wear this everyday to work and also love to accompany it with a night time brown smokey eye, because I’m so predictable…
I absolutely love the packaging – the nude toned casing reflects the whole nude colour range and I love the little touch of the silver button on the bullet. It’s magnetic closure is weirdly satisfying and adds a touch of luxury when you’re using it. It is a little pricey for a lipstick, but the fact that it’s an everyday wearable shade makes it worth the money in my opinion. The application is so smooth and nourishing that you sometimes don’t get with other high end lipsticks. It has a subtle vanilla scent which is my preferred scent – a lot of other high end brands have the usual floral scent which I don’t really like at all.
If you like nude lipsticks like MAC’s Creme d’Nude, Moody Margot is a similar sort of lipstick in terms of quality, formula and texture. I had a look at some of my other nude lipsticks in my collection and found 3 that I think would make good dupes if the Marc Jacobs lipstick is a little out of your price range. Laura Mercier Gel Lip Colour in Flushed is a lot more sheer but similar in texture; MAC’s Creme d’Nude is similar in quality and texture but a little more peach-toned and less of a true nude in comparison; Soap & Glory Sexy Mother-Pucker lipstick in Love and O Beige is another great option but more of a darker nude.
Moody Margot from Marc Jacobs is my go-to nude lipstick and I really recommend not only the range but this colour in particular. The range is pretty luxe and worth it in my opinion. Have you tried any of the Marc Jacobs lipsticks?
