Beauty Favourites of 2017

Happy New Year!

2018 is here and i’m ready for a new year of challenges and new beauty products. I feel that a lot of brands this year have released some great products that have made it into a lot of blogger’s favourites, and I feel that I have discovered a lot of products this year that are now staples in my collection. Some may not have been released in 2017 but are the products that i’ve loved using and feel they deserve to be raved about…

In terms of skincare I have been obsessed with the Pixi Glow Tonic. I have gone through at least 3 of these and love to use this morning and night. I feel that not only has it helped with my skin’s tone and texture, it’s also helped clear up my skin and keeps it looking fresh. I’ve mentioned this product a few times on my blog and on Instagram and it’s definitely worth the hype that it receives.

Another skincare favourite this year has been the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel. I use this on an evening once I have removed all of my makeup and use it almost as a night cream. It smoothes the skin and leaves it hydrated and recharged. I also find that my makeup applies a lot better in the morning after using this.

I have tried a few different base products this year, but my favourite one that I keep coming back to is the Tarte Shape Tape concealer. This product is amazing for concealing under the eyes and adding brightness, and I also use it just as a base on its own for more simple makeup days. It is quite a thick consistency but it just blends like a dream and gives the skin a flawless finish. LOVE.

I have a fair few favourites for the eyes this year, because eyeshadows and palettes and pigments are my weakness. I have 3 favourite palettes that I’ve loved in 2017, two of which are both from Tarte. The Tartelette In Bloom has been a favourite for a while but i’ve got more use out of it this year. It’s a beautiful neutral palette with some warm tones that are perfect for everyday and more dramatic looks. A new favourite from Tarte is the Tartelette Toasted palette, which is full of rich, warm tones and both matte and shimmer finishes. These are so pigmented and have amazing colour pay-off. I’ve loved using the Toasted palette over the Autumn/Winter months, but can see myself using this all year round for some warm smokey eye looks.

Another favourite palette is the Charlotte Tilbury ‘Dolce Vita’. This quad is made up of a ‘prime’ shade, an ‘enhance’ shade, a ‘smoke’ shade and a ‘pop’ shade, which you can use all together or individually. The stand out ones for me are the ‘enhance’ shade which is a beautiful warm russet red, and the ‘pop’ shade which is a gold glitter pigment that really adds impact. I get a lot of compliments when wearing this and love how rich the colours in this palette are.

Some single eyeshadows i’ve loved are both pretty unique formulas, I would say they’re almost cream-to-powder and have the blendability of powder shadows. One is the Colourpop Super Shock in ‘Deep Dive’, which is a warm bronze shade with purple reflects (which works really well on brown eyes). It’s perfect for a smokey eye and makes it look like you’ve put way more effort into your eyeshadow than you actually have. The other one is the Tarte Chrome Paint Shadow Pot in ‘Park Ave Princess’, which is a bronze-gold pigment (can you see a pattern here?) It has amazing intense colour pay-off with just one application. I highly recommend these shadow pots!

Another stand-out product for me this year was the Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow in ‘Kitten Karma’. This is a liquid glitter eyeshadow that dries down and really stays put. You can use this across your whole lid for a dramatic eye or use it to accent and lighten a dark smokey eye. Kitten Karma is a beautiful champagne shade with gold and silver glitter reflects, but there are more shades in the collection that would appeal to everyone. I love to use Kitten Karma on top of brown eyeshadow to create a cut-crease look.

A liner that I recently tried and have not stopped using is the Rimmel Magnif’eyes in ‘Queens of the Bronzed Age’. It’s a double-ended liner that can also be used as eyeshadow. One side is a light champagne shimmer which is ideal for highlighting the inner corner, and the other side is a warm bronze that looks amazing smudged across the lashline or all over the eye. It’s so affordable and definitely worth a try!

A firm favourite for a long time has been the Benefit Rollerlash mascara, and i’ve still been loving it this year. It’s wand is curved to help push up the lashes and add a curl. When layered up it really lengthens the lashes and gives them a lift. I love this mascara and have managed to convert a few of my friends and family onto using it!

My favourite balm this year has been the Tarte Lip Quench in ‘Opal’ which is a really soft and creamy buttery balm with a minty smell. If you don’t like scented products this may not be for you, but I love how refreshing it is. The colour is a soft light pink which adds some colour to the lips while adding hydration. Ideal for no-makeup days or the gym.

A really good lipstick this year has been the Marc Jacobs New Nudes Sheer Gel Lipstick in ‘Moody Margot’. This shade is rumoured to be one of Marc Jacobs favourites and I can see why – it’s a sheer nude beige shade that can be built up for more opacity and adds a nice shine. I love to use this as an everyday nude lipstick as it goes with pretty much any look and doesn’t wash me out. Because the finish of this lipstick is quite sheer I feel it would work on a variety of skintones too. This lipstick is a little pricey but definitely worth the price tag in my opinion.

Using some 2017 favourites: Pixi Glow Tonic, Tarte Shape Tape, Tartelette Toasted palette, Tarte Chrome Pot in Park Ave Princess, Benefit Rollerlash and Marc Jacobs Moody Margot.

Hope you’ve enjoyed my beauty favourites of 2017! Let me know which products you’ve enjoyed this year!
